Things to do in Bristol this winter
Don’t get stuck indoors this winter! If you are looking for somewhere to visit then Bristol and the surrounding area is worth considering. Below are just a few ideas and there’s so much to do that we recommend booking at least a couple of nights at our B&B in Bristol so that you can explore as much as possible of what Bristol has to offer.
The Harbourside Market - and Christmas Market!
The Harbourside Market - is a vibrant community of food stalls, artists, musicians and more. Located on the harbourside in Bristol (where else would it be?), this weekly event is also the place to go if you want to shop for the best jewellery, clothing, books and art. Other produce is also available including soaps and trinkets and food.
The Harbourside Market website describes the event as ‘the perfect place for a conversation and a dance’. The market is open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Visit the Harbourside Market website for more information including opening times.
From Saturday 23rd November, the market will become a very festive Christmas market for 5 weeks making it perfect for gifts or just getting out and feeling festive!
See some great sights with the Clifton Suspension Bridge
Take in the view of the Avon Gorge river from one of the greatest bridges in the world. This fantastic Grade I listed structure spans 250 feet above the river and attracts visitors from all over the world. It’s especially amazing to see when there is a warm evening glow as the sun goes down.
Gardens and parks in Bristol
Bristol is home to over 400 different gardens and places such as Castle Park, Brandon Hill and Clifton Downs which are all great places to get out and breathe in the crisp winter air! The University of Bristol Botanical Gardens is also worth visiting. The gardens are filled with a diverse range of plants and set to a backdrop of a remarkable Victorian house.
Winter Wonderland at Cribbs Causeway
This fabulous event will also feature one of the largest temporary ice skating rinks in the South West of UK!
Made in Bristol Gift Fair (Colston Hall)
We are proud of our local produce and a visit to this fair means you can shop and buy locally made produce - either for yourself as a treat or as a gift for someone else this Christmas!
This event runs at weekends from 23rd November and is completely free. You can find out more about this event at the Colston Hall Christmas Fair
A trip to the North Pole (via Avon Valley Adventure & Wildlife Park)
Who would have thought that visiting Bristol was so close to the North Pole! A short trip to Avon Valley Adventure & Wildlife Park means you can also treat the kids to meeting Santa!
We think this quote from the VisitBristol website sums it up!
“This 60-minute immersive experience will take you on a magical journey to meet Father Christmas, where you will be absorbed by the theatrical nature of this event and filled with festive wonder!”

What else can you visit?
We have only mentioned a few events taking place this winter but there are many more things to do and places to go - from the festival of light show at Longleat to the Spectacle of Light at Sudeley Castle and a chance to visit Santa at the Bristol Zoo.
