Three Ways To Entertain The Kids In Bristol This Summer

The summer holidays are a great opportunity to spend quality time with the kids and, if the weather is kind, then it can be even more enjoyable but trying to find fun activities to fill a six-week break can sometimes be a challenge. That’s where we can help! Here are some great ideas for keeping the kids entertained!

M Shed

M Shed is part of Bristol Museums and there is plenty to do for families - regardless of the weather!

If you know the phrase ‘mmm… some cheese Gromit?’ (who doesn’t?) then you will know the great animation characters Wallace and Gromit and the many adventures they get up to. These wonderful characters - despite their accent - are from the local area and kids can get to see them over the summer holidays!

Bristol-based Aardman Animations is behind fabulously entertaining characters and films such as Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, Chicken Run, Creature Comforts and, possibly for the older generation, Morph. You can’t visit the studios but M Shed has interactive exhibits of Wallace and Gromit and there is a limited-time exhibition until 3rd November allowing you and the family to get behind the scenes of the hit animation film Early Man.

Other activities at M Shed include train and crane rides and a photo trail; allowing little ones to become an explorer on an expedition and see how things look different when viewed through binoculars or a magnifying glass.

We’re going to the zoo, zoo, zoo, how about you?

A great childrens’ song to enjoy with the kids on your way to Bristol Zoo Gardens! From gorillas to reptiles and Splash - the water play area to aerial ropes - there is plenty to do at Bristol Zoo which is located to the west of Bristol city centre.

The zoo is situated on 12-acres and includes 9 undercover houses with different animals - and with over 400 different species across the park. There are also feeding talks where you can meet the experts and find out more about the different reptiles and other animals in their habitat.

When the kids have seen enough and need a break from seeing animals, the Splash area is also a great way to cool off and have fun with streams and dams that they can interact with. The more adventurous might like the aerial ropes course, ZooRopia which allows you to swing past some of the Zoo’s animals including gibbons and gorillas (restrictions apply so we recommend visiting the Zoos website first to find out more).

Be curious with We The Curious

Formerly known as the At-Bristol Science Centre, this attraction is for anyone wanting to get hands-on or be curious! The Visit Bristol website* describes the attraction as ‘an idea and a place for everyone. It's about asking questions, getting creative and testing things out. Science is collaborative, living and a vital part of culture - and the exhibits, events and activities aim to stoke curiosity in all of us.’

The attraction includes over 300 exhibits, a 3D planetarium and the chance to meet Morph. It’s a great place to visit for children to learn about about the world around them and how things work - while still having fun.

With We The Curious there really is plenty to do for the whole family and its location on the harbourside makes it perfect for anyone visiting Bristol.
