Country walks in Bristol

Ashton Court Estate and Mansion - historic 16th century mansion

Ashton Court, Bristol. Bed and Breakfast Bristol near Ashton Court, Bristol
Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and enjoy this historic public space.  The magnificent country estate of Ashton Court covers 850 acres of woods and grassland with breathtaking views over Bristol city.

Woodland walking and wildlife

A wonderful setting for natural wildlife and walking in the countryside - all just 2 miles from Bristol centre!  Ashton Court Estate and Mansion is one of the largest recreational areas in Bristol, now owned by Bristol Council. Ashton Court Estate, surrounded by Somerset countryside, has excellent woodland and grassland walks for all ages. Perfect for family days out. The herds of both red and fallow deer which can be seen in the two deer enclosures within the country estate, are extremely popular. Within the mansion grounds there are the towering Giant Sequoias with their lively families of squirrels - very entertaining for all the family.

House and gardens

Ashton Court Mansion dates from the 14th century. The west face (west face of what?) dates from about the 16th Century and leads to a 14th Century Medieval Hall. The mansion itself is only occasionally open to the public. There are several lodges on the entrances to the estate, which offer interesting historic insights.. The estate gardens are open to the public and include a ha-ha with a view looking down over Smyth Field.  There is a glorious rose garden renewed in 2006.

Where to eat - Ashton Court Stables
